Creating Positive Habits with your Home Exercise Program
Charles Duhigg has published a book called, The Power of Habit, which helps explain how habits work. By understating how this works, Therapists can help their patients to achieve their goals in their rehabilitation.
By having a patient use a notebook and write their goals for the week, they are able to decide what activities they need to do to be able to meet their goals. Patients are able to achieve their goals quicker when they write down their goals.
3 Ways to Establish Better Habits:
1) Write down one to three goals for the week
2) Develop a habit look around the Home Exercise Program and goals- Create cues to act as a trigger to perform your HEP. For example, a location or a time of day can be a cue.
3) Reinforce positive feedback- Reminders and a HEP tracker are powerful strategies to build habits.
